Description[]

stage is a location in which characters fight. There are currently fifteen playable stages, each with their own unique Aether variant, featuring aspects such as the Sylvan Beast on the Aether variant of Treetop Lodge and the pillars of Rock Wall eventually breaking away after being damaged enough. As such, the Aether variants are meant for friendly/casual matches and are completely banned from competitive, and are only available in those respective gamemodes.

Before each game, both players must decide which Stage is to be chosen through the banning system, or alternatively by selecting the random option. By default, in the first round of a casual or competitive match, five stages are chosen for the players to pick in the banning phase. These stages are Merchant Port, Aethereal Gates, Tower of Heaven, The Forest Floor, and Julesvale. Following the first round, the next banning phase will differ; All stages are now unlocked, and the previous match's winner is given 3 bans/strikes to utilize before the loser gets to pick the stage.

Several stages have alternate stage skins, which change the appearance of the stage. As of the release of the Definitive Edition, most can be obtained from the Milestone System, while the CEO Ring skin for Rock Wall can be purchased from the CEO Dreamland compendium, and Diamond Grove can be obtained by downloading Creatures of Aether on Steam.

Blastzones[]

Every stage possesses a unique value for their bottom, side, and top blastzones. Larger values are further away from center stage, while smaller values are closer. Larger blastzones generally take more percentage/effort to successfully take an opponents' stock on that stage, and the opposite is true of smaller blastzones. Considering the blastzones' values alongside your opponent's character, and possible counter picks, is a commonly used strategy in high to pro level play in Rivals of Aether.
